Well, it’s not the first time I’ve said that, but Hello anyway!
It’s godawful early on Labor day and I couldn’t sleep, so I decided to convert my blog from MovableType to WordPress (which was ridiculously easy). Why? Well, WordPress is open source. That could be generally taken to mean, in part, that it’s controlled and managed by people producing the software for the greater good. MovableType is a software product produced for commercial benefit. Therefore, it’s owner, Six Apart, who are a great bunch of people (don’t get me wrong!), has a serious interest in making a profit on their product. This means that the software begins to cost money. Even if they give the software itself away for free there are so many other small things that may start to go away, such as free support or features. Hey, I get that, I work for a software company. So, I’ve just decided that instead of waiting for MovableType 4, I’m going to switch to an alternative package now. Since WordPress is a high-quality, open-source alternative, it wasn’t difficult to switch.
Now, some people may say “What took you so long?” but that’s another long boring story. Anyway, big ups to Six Apart and all that, I’m a WordPress user now. :)
